I loaded 2.1.1 on my BB Curve 8330 and now can't seem to use the GPS with the app. It doesn't say anything other than dashes in the GPS location screen.

I assume it was working before? Have a look at the CacheBerry "Options --> GPS " screen, make sure you have "Internal" selected, put a tick in "Fast Start" and exit the options screen (and save changes), now close CacheBerry using the "Close" menu option then reopen it and wait for a minute then try opening the compass.

If you still get no action after waiting for 2 or 3 minutes you may need to look at CacheBerry's permissions to make sure it has access to the GPS, get back to me in this case and we'll take it from there.

Cheers,
Bruce

Bruce,

I'm having the same issue where my GPS on my 8330 was working fine (I'm using Sprint) and then when I upgraded to 2.1.1 it stopped. I am currently using v2.1.7(OS4.2+GPS). I have tried the things I have seen listed in the forums and still don't have any GPS interaction.

Thanks,

BTW, I've checked the permissions on the APP, they are set to allow access to the GPS. The CB options are set to use the internal GPS and fast start is checked.

Thanks again,

Hi BigOlBear,

Does the GPS work in Blackberry Maps?

Using BETA 2.2, and everything had been peachy until US Cellular finally upgraded to EVDO in our area. After the upgrade, BB maps, Cacheberry, google maps...no GPS at all. Weird thing is, I read somewhere that loading the Garmin app would fix it. Tried that, it started working again, for a while. But, now it's sporadic, and sometime I have to open the Garmin app to get things rolling again. Being that it's a 3 day trial of the program - that expired yesterday, I'm needing a better fix. Starting to search through the forums here to see if there's anything that may help, but if anyone can point me there quicker...I'd appreciate it!

Hi Mazeracer,

Which device do you have? You probably already know this but the best source for advice on thorny BB issues are the forums at www.crackberry.com, If you have an 8330 there has been some previous discussion here of GPS issues with that phone on US Cellular (search for '8330')..

Good luck!

Thanks Bruce,

Just been reading through the info on the 8330 gps Hidden programming screens. It's just weird that the gps had worked fine for a couple months and then after the phone-in upgrad to the EVDO network, things seemed to fall apart after that.

Hi Nate,

I would assume it's something to do with "assisted" GPS that uses their network to obtain the first approximate fix?

Don't think so. The hidden menu shows GPS Acq. Assist is N (guessing that's for No), no idea if that's a correct assumption or not. The only thing that I noted different than described were that it was set on Standalone instead of MS Based, and the IP and Port were wrong.

Will have to try it now that I've updated and saved and see what happens.
